Ross Recap Week #8

October 10, 2023

Hello Athletes and Families,

Ross Recap
Recently at practice, we have been talking about approaching races with confidence and not letting negative mindsets control the way we race.  It was great to see evidence of this effort in the results from Ross.  We had a total of 8 personal bests and 3 more season bests.  Several of the improvements were very sizable, which doesn't happen by accident or if the runner approaches the race timidly.

Athletes of the Week
Varsity
Eric Dew- For the first time this season, Eric was the top runner for the Highlanders at the Ross Invitational on Saturday.  He did so with a new personal best time of 16:54, which is the fastest time on our team so far this year.  Eric is a very dedicated athlete who constantly asks what he can do to improve himself and asks the coaches about tips for new racing strategies.

JV
Garrett Henebry- Garrett has led a running career full of ups and downs, mostly due to injuries.  He has lived and learned and in an effort to stay healthy, he pays much more attention to detail than most runners do.  This season has been very productive for him and in the most recent race at Ross, he set a new personal best of 19:11.  Garrett's commitment to running and his team earned him a spot as one of our captains this year, which was not a surprise to anyone.  He is a selfless and humble individual who everyone trusts and reveres.
