Best of the West Recap
Our school has a tremendous amount of pride in hosting our home invitational.  The athletic department and coaching staff put a ton of time into planning, preparation and management, but we have to request the help of over 50 people to run things properly on the day of the meet.  Parents, thank you so much for your volunteer efforts; your absence would have meant tragedy for us.  Athletes, it is so obvious that you have pride in our team and yourselves.  Those who worked on Thursday and Saturday put in a tremendous amount time without a complaint.  And those who competed seemed to dig down a little deeper to show off for the home crowd.  It was wonderful to see an organization totaling over 400 people (including athletes, parents, coaches and alumni) coming together to put on such a successful event.  It really helps to create a positive public image for Oak Hills High School.  Thank you!

On Thursday, the boys finished 2nd and girls finished 1st as a team!  The last time the Oak Hills girls won Best of the West was 2016.  Congrats and well done ladies!

Varsity BotW Results

Athletes of the Week
JV
Kyla Begley- Kyla has been one of the top JV sprinters all season.  She has the ability to run great times at all three sprint distances.  Most recently at Harrison last week, Kyla ran an outstanding personal best in the 400m by 3 seconds.  She then repeated this excellent performance twice more on Saturday at JV Best of the West.

Tion Starr- Tion has been a great addition to the team this year.  He has spent most of the season specializing in the 100m and 200m.  However, at Harrison his week he ran what was his most impressive race of the year so far, and it was over the 400m distance.  Tion surpassed the varsity standard in the 400m the first time he ran the race.

Colin Klaserner- Colin is a very dedicated middle distance runner, and his late season success has shown that all of his hard work has been worth it.  He had a big break through a couple weeks ago and hasn't looked back since.  Colin's times in the 800m have been bordering near the varsity standard.

Varsity
Julia Hageman-  Julia competed in three track events last Thursday to help her team win the Best of the West Invitational.  She placed 1st in the 4x800 and the 4x400 relays and 2nd in the 800 meters. Julia is a 4-year Varsity Track and Cross Country athlete. She has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked in the top 1% of her class.

Kosi Mkwananzi- Kosi is a first year track & field athlete, but has already been making a huge impact on the team.  His willingness to try any and every event has helped us to learn that he is a natural in the 300m hurdles.  On Thursday at the Best of the West invitational, he won the 300m hurdles in a new personal best which currently ranks him as #1 in the GMC.
