Ross Recap Week #7

May 2, 2023

Ross Recap
As the end of the season draws near, the coaching staff gets closer to figuring out exactly which athlete belongs in each event.  As a result, our team lineup sets us up to maximize our team scores.  That was clear this week as our JV girls placed second and JV boys placed first at the Ross JV invitational.  At the varsity invitational, both the boys and girls teams were team champions.  The JV boys and varsity girls meets came down to our athletes performing well in the last event, the 4x400 relay, which is always a thrilling way to finish!  Although, when you think about the anatomy of a team victory by just a few points, it was really every single effort throughout the entire meet that earned the W.  There's nothing quite like a close win to remind everyone how valuable each team member is and bring us closer together.

V Ross Results

Athletes of the Week
JV
Jared Richmond- Jared has done an outstanding job this season as a leader on our JV squad.  He is one of the top performers in that group.  Recently, he has started to compete in the 800m and shown a real aptitude for it.  After training strictly as a sprinter, this is impressive.  Jared also ran a lifetime best in the 400m last week.

Olivia Klaserner- Olivia is a hurdler who has shown a tremendous amount of dedication.  She has steadily improved this whole season but had a real breakout week last week.  She ran 3 races and ran personal bests in all of them.

Varsity
Alex Taft- Alex has been a consistently strong 3200m runner for our team all season.  He has run personal bests in all 3 distance races this season including the 800, 1600 and 3200.  At Ross last week, he was part of the 1st place 4x800 relay and finished in 2nd in the 3200.

Emma Herzog- Emma is one of the top sprinter/jumpers on the team.  She performs well in all of the sprints, relays and jumps.  Most recently at Ross, she finished 8th in high jump, 4th in the 4x200, 2nd in long jump, and 1st in the 4x400.

Parent Volunteers
Parents, we have a few spots yet to fill for our volunteer positions.  Some parents feel that the best plan is to volunteer at the meet that their child is NOT competing in this week.  Or if you prefer to volunteer in the concession stand on the day your child IS competing, it is totally fine to step away from your job for a few minutes so that you can watch your child's event.  Thank you to all those who have signed up already!
