Sycamore Recap
It's uncommon that our team gets to compete in such a high level meet this early in the season. Historically speaking, we don't usually see competition this fierce until May. Our athletes knew what to expect and instead of cowering and feeling sorry for themselves, many stepped up to the challenge and made some huge improvements. We enjoyed a multitude of personal bests from individuals across all event areas. Our relay groups are coming together nicely and performing well under pressure. However, one relay in particular really stole the show on Friday. The boys 4x800m relay team broke the school record en route to their victory. This was the oldest record on our boards, dating back to 1970! The team of Noah Mckee, Josh Dew, EJ Schneider and Brayden Holland ran 8:03.78, which shattered the old record by a margin of 6 seconds.
Athletes of the Week
JV
Kellee Shay- Kellee ran the 1600m at Lakota East. She showed confidence by racing at the front of the pack right from the start. Her time of 6:14 was just a couple seconds off of her lifetime best.
Dakota Randazzo- Dakota high jumped a personal best of 5'6" at Lakota East. His jump was 4 inches better than his previous mark. Dakota had to start high jump right after finishing the 4x200 relay but managed to keep his focus even with tired legs.
Varsity
Riley Williams- Riley was a huge support to her team on Friday at Sycamore by performing full time duties. She competed in 4 events: 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 200m. All of the relays placed in the top 8. Not only is Riley a very versatile sprinter, but her willingness to sacrifice for her team shows a great leadership quality.
EJ Schneider- EJ was the third leg of the school record setting 4x800 relay at the Sycamore meet. He ran a new personal best of 2:01.7. A couple hours later, EJ placed 6th in the 3200m in a time of 10:11.30, which was another massive personal best.
