2019 Softball Preview

March 13, 2019

Oak Hills Softball looks to compete for a GMC Championship again this season and are coming off a 17-10 year in 2018. The GMC is perennially the best D-1 softball conference in the state each year as the league had 4 different teams in District Finals last season. The Highlanders look to replace 5 seniors who graduated last year.  This years squad will also be led by 5 seniors: Cierra Franke, Sierra Dance, Michaela Cassidy (Thomas More commit), Mattison Fisher (Thomas More commit), and Sydney Bledsoe (Thomas More Commit). 3 Juniors will also help power the team: Emma Bode (Findley commit), Josie Wefer (Miami commit and All-Ohio selection), and Kayla Roddy.  Sophomore Savannah Dance and Freshman Ryley Backscheider have also landed roster spots.  The rest of the squad will be filled out by some quality underclassman who are still battling it out for those coveted last few roster spots.

Roddy will be handling most of the pitching duties this season and will be counted on heavily to step up and keep the Highlanders in games. She split time last season and will have to adjust to being the ace this season. If she can pitch well, watch out because this team should be able to score some runs.  Bledsoe and Fisher will be the table setters and will look to Cassidy, Wefer, Bode, and the rest of the lineup to supply the power and drive in runs.  Defensively, the Highlanders will have replace several infield spots and a outfield spot from last season however, they have some talented players who can play multiple positions.  A few more players will need to step up and produce for this team to beat out Mason, Lakota East, Lakota West, and Fairfield for the GMC title.
