Best of the West Recap
We were all very disappointed that JV Best of the West was canceled.  The school is bound by state law to monitor lightning strikes at certain distances.  We ended up being suppressed from 9am until about noon due to the weather.  We recognize that many athletes lost their final chance to compete for the season, which is very sad considering how hard you all work.  Regardless of this lost opportunity, the coaching staff is incredibly proud of how far you all have come and we can't wait to see you back next year!

Varsity Best of the West was a huge success!  We are so thankful to all the student, parent and alumni volunteers who made things run seamlessly.  I believe we provide an experience for our guests unlike any other throughout the season, which makes all the hard work worth it.

Our team compiled a huge number of 1st place finishes, personal bests, program top 10s, and even 2 school records!  The girls finished in 2nd and the boys were team champions.

Congrats to the boys 4x200 team of Brayden Holland, Ryan Linenkugel, Demar Parker and Amon'tae Johnson for breaking the school record from 2017 in a time of 1:30.13!

Congrats to the girls 4x100 team of Mady Linenkugel, Ra'niyah Martin, Maya Hill and Presley Pennekamp for breaking the school record from 2002 in a time of 49.80!

Athletes of the Week
Varsity
Dakota Randazzo- Dakota a massive personal best high jump by 6 inches to achieve a mark of 6'2" at Best of the West.  He placed 3rd with this effort.  Dakota is a very hard worker who has overcome a lot to get to where he is now.

Presley Pennekamp- Presley completed a very difficult 4 event day at Best of the West.  She ran the 100m, 4x2, 4x1 and 200 in which she placed 3rd, 1st, 1st, 3rd.  This is a combination of events that isn't easy to pull off.  Presley's 4x1 relay team broke the Oak Hills School record which stood since 2002.

JV
Charlie Morehead- Charlie led the way for the Highlands throwers at Harrison in both shot put and discus.  His throw of 32'3" in the shot put was a personal best.

Allyson Hassett- Allyson broke 6 minutes in the mile for the first time, running 5:55.  She placed 5th in the event at Harrison.  This time also earns her the varsity standard.
