Track and Field Week 3 Recap

April 8, 2024

Ross Recap
The Highlanders put on another dominant show during week #2 at Ross.  Both the boys and girls teams won the team titles by huge margins.  An athlete made a funny comment to me regarding the temperature: "Why do you only schedule meets on the coldest days?!"  Yes, both of the first competitions were chilly and the jv and varsity meets for week #3 are forecasted to be frigid as well.  One characteristic about our group of young people that has already set them apart from their competitors, is that they haven't let less than ideal weather conditions become a barrier.  When the weather is beautiful, everyone competes well.  But adversity requires an athlete to pay attention to the little, tedious and boring details.  Here is a list of positive habits that we have been doing a great job of, keep it up!: dressing for the weather, warming up properly, bringing snacks to meets, watching out for your teammates and being coachable.

Athletes of the Week
Mandy Gehring- Mandy had a fantastic performance at the Ross All-Comers Meet last week, winning all three of the events she competed in.  She was part of the 1st place 4x100 relay and was the top performer in high jump and long jump.  Long jump might be Mandy's best event, based on her All-State finish in the event last season.  She is also the top point scorer on the girls team so far this season.

Ryan Linenkugel- Ryan raced to first place finishes in the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles last week at the Ross All-Comers Meet.  Despite the cold weather, he managed lifetime bests in both events.  Ryan is also a talented long jumper and placed 5th in the event.  He has the range to compete in just about any event in track & field and is one of the fastest guys on all of Oak Hills' sprint relay teams.

Ross JV Meet 4/4
The JV meet this week is at Ross High School on Thursday.  Spectator tickets can be purchased at this website or at the gate.  Please look carefully at all rosters this week; some athletes are completing both days.

Coaches Classic Varsity Meet 4/5
The varsity meet this week is at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.  Spectator tickets can be purchased at this website or at the gate.  I have been told that parking is kind of a pain at this location.  Leave yourself a little extra time to travel and arrive.  Please look carefully at all rosters this week; some athletes are completing both days.

April Calendar
The April calendar is attached.  There is no practice on Monday, April 8 due to the solar eclipse.  For the remainder of the year, there will be no jv practice on the days of varsity meets.
